The winner, Bui Van Manh, born in 1981 and living in Ho Chi Minh City, won the jackpot after matching the numbers 01-14-15-19-23-24.
Under Vietnam’s personal income tax regulations, lottery winners must pay a 10-percent tax on prize amounts exceeding VND10 million ($380).
After tax deductions, Manh is expected to receive more than VND75.2 billion ($2.85 million).
Unlike most major Vietlott winners, who typically conceal their identities behind masks to protect their privacy, Manh chose to appear publicly and allow his name and image to be released.
Manh said he has been buying Vietlott tickets for 10 years, always hoping to one day win big and appear publicly.
He purchased the winning ticket for VND70,000 ($2.7) at a Vietlott sales outlet on Hung Vuong Street, Ho Chi Minh City.
He previously won first prizes in the Power 6/55 game twice, each worth VND40 million ($1,520), and claimed two first prizes in the Mega 6/45 game, each valued at VND10 million ($380).
Speaking at the award ceremony, Pham Quang Huy, deputy general director of Vietlott, said Manh is one of only nine major jackpot winners who have agreed to publicly reveal their identities.
Vietlott statistics show that more than 780 winners of high-value prizes have opted to remain anonymous since the company began operations in 2016.
While public appearances by jackpot winners remain rare, several winners over the past decade have chosen to reveal their identities.
