Methodology: ST commissioned Kantar to survey 1,000 unmarried respondents between 18 and 35 years old to understand the dating scene, challenges and frustrations among young adults in Singapore. An online survey was conducted from Dec 20 to 26, 2025, targeting Singaporeans and permanent residents. National representative quotas were adopted on gender, age and race, and soft quotas on monthly personal income. The respondents were evenly split between men and women – 94% identified as straight, 4% identified as queer and 2% as “others” or preferred not to say. Respondents were either single or unmarried if in a relationship. Supporting data on proportion of singles by age group, median age of first marriage and age gap between bride and groom are from the Department of Statistics.
Separately, we also spoke to 10 Singaporeans, whose names have been changed for anonymity, about their dating stories. Quotes in the speech bubbles are based on real stories and people.
