Investments worth more than €1 billion were announced at the EU-Moldova conference. Kos: “We see your potential”

In Chisinau on June 4, at the first investment conference “Moldova – European Union”, letters of intent and investment partnerships worth more than €1 billion were announced. This was announced by the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who took part in the event. According to her, the participants presented more than 75 projects. They plan to sign letters of intent with the first eight companies approximately €208 million. International financial institutions announced planned investments up to €443 million. President Maia Sandu called on businesses to invest “in the future of the country – a future member of the EU.”

Maia Sandu opened the conference and stated that Moldova has “changed significantly in recent years and has opened up new opportunities for investors.”

“A few years ago, few people believed in us. We were called too small, too vulnerable and too close to war. We were told that our European choice would not stand up to pressure. He endured because we remained firm,” Sandu said.

She noted that over the past four years, EU investments in Moldova have increased by almost 30%, and funds from the EU Growth Plan in the amount of almost €2 billion will be directed to the development of roads, energy, infrastructure and industry.

“When you invest in Moldova, you are investing in a country whose future is linked to Europe and European rules – in the areas of competition, fair conditions and investor protection that any serious investor expects. We invite you to look at the direction in which Moldova is moving and to walk this path with us,” the president said.

She also stated that after the restoration of Ukraine begins, Moldova will be able to become a logistics, service, production and energy hub. Sandu promised support to investors.

“My commitment to you is that you will not go through Moldova alone. This government will be there for investors to cut red tape and solve problems before they become obstacles. People ask what guarantees Moldova can give to investors. My answer is our history. We act quickly. We are fulfilling our obligations,” she added.

Marta Kos: more than €1 billion investment for Moldova

European Commissioner Martha Kos said that letters of intent were signed at the conference with the first eight companies worth about €208 million. International financial institutions announced planned investments of up to €443 million in the form of EU grants, guarantees and loans.

In total, EU support reaches about €640 million in potential investments. Together with the private investments announced by the Moldovan government (€364 million), the total volume exceeds €1 billion.

She also announced the launch of the selection of companies that want to receive EU support for investment in Moldova. The program covers agribusiness, processing, light industry, renewable energy, IT and digital services, tourism and logistics. According to her, more than 75 projects were received.

Marta Kos said that Moldova has implemented 93% of reforms under the EU Growth Plan and is ahead of other candidate countries.

“With 93% of implementation, Moldova is ahead of all candidate countries with growth plans. This builds trust. We see your progress, we see your potential, and many investors see it,” she said.

She also noted the rapid growth of the renewable energy sector, with capacity “increasing by almost 800% in four years.” In April, renewable sources covered more than a third of electricity consumption, and in some periods – almost 100%.

“In April alone, renewable energy covered more than a third of consumption, and in some periods almost 100%. This is a sector that is growing rapidly. It’s not surprising that you attract companies that build data centers,” Kos said.

She highlighted Moldova’s logistics potential and its role in new EU trade routes between Europe and eastern markets. “Moldova is an important link on this route,” she added.

Kos also cited examples of EU countries, including Croatia and the Baltic states, as examples of economic growth after joining the union.

“Moldova can follow the same path – a European path to prosperity that will bring opportunities to its hardworking and innovative people. Moldova is so great when it comes to European determination, energy and motivation to succeed. And I am confident that you will succeed,” she said.

Let’s celebrate June 4 Marta Kos arrived in Moldova on a two-day visit. The European Commissioner will take part in the opening of the EU-Moldova Investment Conference and the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 conference, and will also visit the Criuleni and Causeni districts.

The day before, June 3, the European Commissioner saidthat in July of this year Moldova will have access to all the remaining negotiation clusters necessary for accession to the European Union. Kos added that she came to Chisinau with a “clear signal of progress” and is optimistic about our country’s negotiations with the EU.
