Slobodna Dalmacija – A mega hospital is being built in Croatia for as much as 850 million euros! It will be one of the most modern in the EU; here is what it will look like

► The new KBC Osijek is a key health center in Croatia, with an estimated value of more than 800-850 million euros and the goal of completion by the end of this decade. Completion of the works is planned by 2030, some more cautious ones state that due to the size, the works could take a few more years.

► The new Osijek Clinical Hospital Center is being planned on state-owned land with an area of ​​about 120,000 m² in Gacka Street, which was donated by the Government to KBC Osijek in a contract signed at the beginning of March 2026.
► The hospital complex should cover more than 200,000 square meters of gross area, with thousands of parking spaces, about 1,300 beds and several dozen operating rooms, which ranks it among the largest hospitals in this part of Europe.

► The project envisages a completely new, centralized building that will replace the existing pavilion hospital and gather most activities in one location, with construction and equipment standards aligned with European Union norms.

► The preparatory phase of the project lasted several years and included the preparation of project-technical and study documentation as part of the project “Preparation of the strategic project for the construction of the new KBC Osijek”. This preparatory project was carried out from May 2019 to the end of December 2023, with a value of more than 4.6 million euros, the largest part of which was financed from the European Regional Development Fund. By the end of 2023, the project documentation was completed, including the main project, and the goal was then to obtain the location permit by the end of the year. At the end of 2024, the construction permit for the new KBC building was issued, which formally opened the way for the start of the public procurement procedure and the selection of the contractor. At the beginning of 2026, a contract on the gift of land worth more than 12 million euros was signed between the state and KBC Osijek, which was marked as a prerequisite for the tender for the contractor.
► The county and the state announce that after the donation of the land, public procurement for works will be announced, with the estimated value of the construction work currently amounting to around 850 million euros, significantly more than the originally planned amount due to inflation.
