A series of earthquakes with a difference of a few minutes between them occurred at noon on Sunday, centered on Euboea.
The vibrations were particularly felt in Attica and in other areas.
The first, strong tremor was recorded at 12:58 p.m. and, according to the Geodynamic Institute’s automatic solution, had a magnitude 4.8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located six kilometers southwest of Prokopio Evia, while the focal depth is estimated at only 14 kilometers, which explains why the earthquake was particularly felt in the basin of Attica.
Three more earthquakes followed in the same area with the highest one intensity 5.2 Richter. Then three tremors from 2.7 to 3.3 Richter were recorded in the area of Mantoudi.
According to what the mayor of Mantoudi – Agia Anna, Giorgos Tsapourniotis, told kathimerini.gr, there is damage to many houses in Prokopi and Dafnousa and also to the road network due to landslides. However, there are no injuries.
As it became known from Civil Protection, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Kostas Katsafados and the General Secretary of Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid, Petros Kambouris are in contact with the local authorities in order to record the damages. At the same time, as it became known from the Fire Department, the forces of the Fire Department have mobilized and are carrying out patrols in the wider area while, according to the Fire Department, they also proceeded to remove stones from a road in the Derveni area of Evia.

Ev. Lekkas: Area with high seismicity but magnitudes are maintained at this level
The president of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas told OREN: “We have since 12:58 the beginning of a seismic activity in the area of Prokopio, Evia, it is an area with high seismicity as in the past we had similar tremors. The special thing is that we had two big ones and then several smaller ones. The earthquake was also felt in Attica, Skiathos, Karditsa and elsewhere. It is an area with high seismicity, the earthquakes in this area have the characteristic that they all occur together in a period of a few hours or a few days, but the positive thing is that the sizes are maintained at this level. When we have seismic activity in the area, we are about there, we don’t go to big earthquakes. We have minor damage in Evia, falling objects. I think there is no reason to worry. Residents should not approach morphologically special areas, should not live in houses that are old or damaged. Otherwise, there is no need to worry that something special is happening.”
