Although clashes like those on Thursday between ICE troops and protesters against the Trump Governmentthe latter repeatedly confronted the group that appeared before Delaney Hall for the first time today.
On Friday, in response to the violent riots that left nine arrested, the Democratic governor from New Jersey, Mike Sherrillannounced that a protected area would be established for peaceful protests in front of the center and argued that he did not want situations like those that occurred last January in Minneapoliswhen immigration agents killed two American citizens protesting against their raids.
Legislators, activists and family members have been standing guard for more than a week to obtain answers about the situation within the privately managed facility which houses some 300 immigrantsof which a part have initiated a hunger strike after denouncing inhumane conditions.
Delaney Hall, which is the largest ICE detention center in the East Coast of the United States with more than a thousand places, it is managed by the company GEO Groupwith a 15-year contract valued at one billion dollars.
