At the end of May this year, the State Police received information that a man’s body was found in some property in Jēkabpils. A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a criminal offense and has been placed in custody, the State Police informs.
On May 24, around 12:00, the State Police received information that In Jēkabpils a man’s body was found on some property. Officials of the State Police initiated criminal proceedings for the incident and on the same day arrested a man born in 1953 on suspicion of committing a criminal offense.
So far, the investigation has established that both men shared alcoholic beverages. During the joint consumption of alcohol, the man born in 1957 was stabbed in the chest and died at the scene.
On Tuesday, May 26, the officials of the Jēkabpils regional branch of the Criminal Police Office of the Zemgale Regional Administration of the State Police went to the court to ask for a security measure to be applied to the arrested man – arrest, which has come into force. The detainee has not previously come to the attention of the police for committing criminal offenses and has not been punished.
Officials of the State Police continue the investigation in the criminal proceedings initiated under Article 116 of the Criminal Law on murder. According to the Criminal Law, such a crime is punishable by life imprisonment or deprivation of liberty for a period of five to twenty years and with probation supervision for a period of up to three years. The amount of the penalty is determined by the court.
The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until his guilt in committing a criminal offense is proven in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law.
