Hagita Primary School in Milne Bay won the first prize of K33,000 with 1,767 entries in this year’s Smart Start School promotion run by Paradise Foods Limited.
The runner-up prize of K11,000 was won by Karea Primary School in Gulf with 1,463 entries.
“The promotion reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to communities with a strong focus on education and youth development,” an official said.
Junior brand manager — biscuits, Rex-Obed Milamala said the main aim was to give schools the opportunity to grow and develop using school grants.

“Whether through building new classrooms, teachers’ houses or other school facilities, these grants would go towards communities that need them the most,” he said.
The two schools were the Southern region winners. The draw was done yesterday in Gordon, Port Moresby.
Other regional winners announced last week were:
- MOMASE — Omega Primary School in Morobe with 2,415 entries and the runner-up was Bowali Primary School in Morobe with 2,324 entries;
- HIGHLANDS — Kerebug Primary School in Western Highlands with 2,816 entries and the runner-up was Tega Primary School with 2,413 entries; and,
- NEW Guinea Islands — Tapo Primary School in East New Britain with 1,397 entries and the runner-up was St Martins Primary School with 1,289 entries.
“We also have 50 consolation prizes for each region to appreciate the students for taking part in the competition,” he said.
The promotion is in its fifth year and ran from March 2 to April 30.
More than 200 schools participated in the competition which generated 28, 849 entries over the eight-week campaign.
The initiative that was first introduced in 2022, has funded impactful projects that have befitted students and communities across Papua New Guinea and is expected to continue next year.
