During the meeting, the parties agreed to continue all the positive developments that were achieved earlier. In particular, it is about:
-
verification and return of prisoners of war and illegally detained civilians;
-
transfer of letters and packages from prisoners of war to their families;
-
mutual visits and inspection of conditions of detention;
-
work on family reunification;
-
determining the fate of persons missing under special circumstances.
Separately, they agreed to verify all available lists of prisoners of war and civilians held in places of detention.
An agreement was also reached on the further expansion of the humanitarian track in the interests of the people. According to Lubinets, the first practical result of this work was the return of five citizens of Ukraine. Three families were reunited with the support of the ICRC.
The oldest of the evacuees is 84 years old.
Direct speech: “These Ukrainians ended up in Russia for various reasons, but one of them was deported by the Russians from the city of Mariupol. She is a 74-year-old woman, she is in a serious condition, she moves around in a wheelchair and needs constant outside care. Thanks to our work, the woman will be reunited with her daughter in Ukraine.
I expect that this channel of interaction will be preserved and will continue to work for the result. After all, without dialogue, it is impossible for people to return home, to receive answers for their families, and to solve humanitarian issues.
It is at the negotiating table that all the most difficult issues, including issues of peace, are resolved. We continue to work.”
