Before the start of the big Greek derby between Olympiakos and Panathinaikosviewers witnessed one of the most emotional moments in sports journalism in the region. The commentator Nenad Kostic with a trembling voice he paid tribute to his longtime colleague and friend Edin Avdicwho died Wednesday at the age of 47.
Kostic and Avdic for years they were considered one of the most recognizable commentary pairs, and their broadcasts left a deep mark on basketball fans.
“Greetings to all basketball fans. You all know what happened two days ago. Edin Avdic left us. Regional, European and world basketball lost a legendary commentator and journalist. I’m talking about a man who was more than a friend,” said Kostic at the beginning of the broadcast.
He recalled their moments together in the commentary booth, stressing that no final series would be enough to recount all the memories they shared over the years.
Kostic also returned to their first joint broadcast in 2009, at the match between Helios and Olympia within the ABA League.
“That’s how I’ll always remember Edin. With his signature smile when he entered the newsroom. That was the beginning of a wonderful friendship,” he said.
At the end of his address, Kostic he couldn’t hide his emotions.
“I don’t want to remember the last broadcast, because I know that one day, in a better and fairer place, we will meet again. The best among us has left, without whom nothing will be the same. Edin, glory to you and thanks for everything you did. Your work will live long, because legends never die,” said Nenad Kostic.
