Fraport calms down: There is enough aviation fuel for the summer
Europe has enough jet fuel for the summer, the CEO of airport operator Fraport, Stefan Schulte, has asserted. If there might be a shortage somewhere in the world, passengers would either be rescheduled or refunded, he announced.
“I would like to make it clear to every passenger not to worry about the reservation at the moment,” Schulte said in an interview published today with the German newspaper Handelsblatt, as summarized by the German news agency DPA.
He is convinced that there is enough kerosene in Europe for the summer, and if everything goes according to plan, there will be no problems until the end of the year. In the event of a shortage in certain regions of the world, passengers will be adequately taken care of, asserted the head of the company, which manages the airports in Frankfurt and Brnik, among others.
“In my opinion, worries that we could get stuck somewhere are unfounded. Countries like India and China are dealing with the situation very professionally, by creating reserves. Every plane that can land there will also be able to fly again,” he assessed.
The concern about the lack of aviation fuel stems from the war in the Middle East and the resulting closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which more than a quarter of all kerosene consumed in Europe arrives.
