Despite the satisfaction that has prevailed recently among the social actors of Paphos, and especially in the educational community, since the formalization of the inclusion of the above-ground pedestrian bridge project on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue in this year’s state budgets, nevertheless the Paphos is still on standby for the on-site commencement of the works.
The surface pedestrian bridge was included in his declarations President Christodoulidis as they were announced to the Paphos agencies since last September, while the intentions were formalized through the funds provided for the project, which satisfied organized groups, agencies and actors of the city since the plans remained at a verbal level for a number of years.
However, until now the project has not been included in the frequent reports of Paphos’ outstandings, which is done with the Paphos-Polis highwaythe marina or the new airport road, which also creates a climate of reservation. And this, given that the specific project is treated with particular sensitivity in Paphos, since it affects the safety of hundreds of students who cross this particular avenue every day, even more so since a few years ago the first tragic death of a student was recorded in her attempt to cross the avenue from a controlled crossing point.
The process has now entered a preparatory phase with the preparation of a simplified plan of the overpass by the Department of Town Planning and Housing, the necessary approvals, the preparation of the construction plans and the start of the works. The project is promoted as urban planning, with 80% funding from the budget of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing and 20% from the budget of the Municipality of Paphos.
