Three men were arrested and two luxury BMW vehicles seized during an intelligence-led police operation in Cunupia on Wednesday.
Police said the arrests came after officers discovered that registration plates attached to the vehicles did not correspond with the vehicles on which they were displayed.
The operation, conducted between 3.30 p.m. and 9 p.m., involved officers of the Home Invasion Team, Multi-Operational Police Service (MOPS), and the Anti-Extortion Unit.
Acting on intelligence relating to firearms, ammunition and stolen vehicles, officers went to a property along Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, where they met three men—two 26-year-olds residing at the address and a 28-year-old man from Diego Martin.
The men were informed that police intended to search the premises.
A thorough search was conducted but no firearms or ammunition were found.
Officers then focused their attention on three vehicles parked on the property, a black BMW, a red BMW and a white Nissan Sylphy.
Police said checks were conducted through the South and Central Operations Centre to verify the registration numbers displayed on the vehicles.
The enquiries revealed that the licence plates did not correspond with the vehicles to which they were affixed.
Investigators said the discrepancies gave officers reasonable grounds to suspect that the vehicles may have been stolen and potentially used in the commission of criminal activities.
The three men were subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
The BMWs and the Nissan Sylphy were seized and conveyed to the Cunupia Police Station.
The exercise was coordinated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Richard Smith and Acting Assistant Superintendent St Clair, with field supervision provided by Acting Sergeant Singh.
