THE Wewak Urban East Futsal Competition staged at the Malasi Community Pitch in Wewak, East Sepik, under the banner “Futsal for Change” kept everyone there as well others from neighbouring communities busy over the Easter long weekend and term one holidays.
After five days of intensive competition in the Under-12 mix, U16 mix and Open Men and Women’s divisions, Dastro Futsal Club of Malasi dominated the finals with presentations made on April 10.
Dastro went up against Local Cowboys of Kreer village in the U12 mix, and played Tanker Dogs of Kreer Public Tank in the U16 mix and gave a tough challenge to Leftovers 2 of Kreer in the women’s division.
In the Open Men’s grand final match, Brother FC from Korogu camp in Makon and Leftovers 2 of Kreer provided another spectacular tussle to end a great fest of football.
“Dastro FC is proud that all its teams made it to the grand finals,” club manager, Kevin Kambori, said.
“We played host to the Futsal four Change program and having all the club’s divisions reaching the finals is testament to our hard work, preparation and commitment to live up to the expectation as the host of the games.”
Kambori thanked all the clubs that participated in the competition, which united the communities in Kreer, Kreer Public Tank area, Malasi and Makon villages.
He urged the communities to remain united and promote peace and harmony.
“We were united in these games and we must carry that spirit of peace and good order, positivity, self-awareness and self-care into the proper season in the coming weeks,” Kambori said.
Work is in progress to start the Wewak East futsal proper season soon.
