On the eighteenth of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah of each year, the Yemeni people commemorate “Wilaya Day,” in a broad faith and public demonstration that embodies the depth of the emotional and historical connection to the approach of authentic Muhammadan Islam, and adherence to the rooted faith identity. In compliance with the divine guidance and the noble prophetic message in Ghadir Khumm: “Whoever I am his master, Ali is his master.”
The memory of Guardianship Day acquires very important religious and historical connotations in the conscience of the Yemeni people. Because it goes beyond the limits of passing occasions or celebratory rituals, it constitutes a milestone annual station for renewing the covenant and loyalty to God and His Messenger, and to Imam Ali, peace be upon him, and the icons of guidance.
The connection of the people of Yemen with Imam Ali, peace be upon him, has been rooted since he set foot on the land of Yemen as an envoy of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, which was the beginning of their entry into the religion of God in droves. Since that date, the Yemenis have continued to commemorate “Wilaya Day” generation after generation, so that this connection remains close and alive in their identity of faith and their authentic culture that has been passed down from generation to generation.
The commemoration of “Guardianship Day” represents a safety valve for the nation in the face of external ambitions and conspiracies, which strive to separate it from the sources of its power and elements of its pride, and attempt to domesticate it to subject it to the forces of tyranny and American Zionist colonialism. The importance of the anniversary lies in protecting society from attempts at intellectual and cultural penetration, and confirming the nation’s absolute rejection of foreign guardianship projects.
The people of Yemen adhere to the principle of guardianship in the correct Qur’anic sense, as the only guarantee to protect society from the takeover of the nation’s enemies, the Jews and Christians, to protect the internal front from cultural and intellectual penetration, and to build a strong, dear, and independent nation that owns its decisions and faces challenges with courage and fortitude.
The adherence of the people of Yemen to the principle of guardianship, in its correct Qur’anic sense, comes as an inevitable guarantee to protect society from the takeover of the nation’s enemies, and to fortify the internal front from attempts at cultural and intellectual penetration. This adherence represents the basic foundation for building a strong, dear, and independent nation that holds the reins of its sovereign decision, and faces the current challenges and turning points with courage and fortitude.
In light of the historical turning point that the nation is going through, the responsibility is doubled today more than ever before to draw lessons and lessons from the biography of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, peace be upon him, who represented the highest model in establishing truth and justice, and embodying the values of courage, sacrifice, asceticism, and insightful awareness of enemy conspiracies.
Following this Qur’anic approach and line of faith provides the nation with insight and high awareness of the enemies’ plans. This is clearly evident today in the principled and firm Yemeni position, in support of the Palestinian people and the oppression of the Gaza Strip, and an embodiment of the high readiness to make sacrifices to break the siege and confront global hegemony and arrogance.
Between a past in which the Ansar ancestors responded to the call of the Noble Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, in Ghadir Khumm, and a present in which they embody the highest values of sacrifice and redemption, the Yemenis demonstrate by commemorating that the principle of guardianship is a true safety valve to protect the nation and preserve its dignity, and the key to victory and empowerment that will guarantee the restoration of the glory and dignity of Muslims, and that the Yemen of faith and wisdom will remain steadfast in the trenches of freedom and pride, based on the guardianship of God. And His Messenger confronts tyrants and the forces of arrogance.
The Yemeni people culminate their annual commemoration of “Guardianship Day” by emphasizing that the sincere and conscious return to this divine principle does not merely represent an extension of their historical depth and close connection with Imam Ali, peace be upon him, but rather it is the practical basis for saving the nation from the reality of diaspora and subordination to the forces of tyrants, and the basic basis for protecting and fortifying it from enemy conspiracies.
