Seventeen schools from across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), are currently participating in the 2026 Inter-Primary Schools Developmental Cricket Competition, played under modified cricket rules for that age grouping. Under the modified rules, each team must bat out their 20 overs even if they have surpassed the score of the team batting first. The competition which commenced on Wednesday,May 27, 2026 is being used as a platform to infuse the fundamental cricketing skills at the grass-roots level. This year marks the second consecutive year of this competition, on completion of which the young cricketers will return to competitions under the official rules that govern the sport.

The 17 competing teams have been placed into four zones from which they are contesting round robin preliminary matches between May 27, and June 2, at the London Playing Field, Stubbs Playing Field, Belair Playing Field and the Buccament Bay Playing Field.

The top two teams from each zone will advance to the knock-out stage, with the finals to be played on June 11, 2026 at a venue to be announced.

In another zone one clash at the same venue, Sandy Bay Government had the better of Tourama Government School by 29 runs.

Owia Government scored 180 for 8 in 20 overs, and Tourama Government replied with 151 all out in 20 overs.

In zone two at the Stubbs Playing Field, Georgetown Government defeated the Pamelus Burke Primary school by 115 runs. Georgetown Government rallied to 211 for 7 in 20 overs, and Pamelus Burke Primary were restricted to 96 for 9 in their 20 overs.

In the other zone three match Dorsetshire Hill Government had the better of Gomea Methodist by 97 runs. Dorsetshire Hill Government made 234 for 8 in 20 overs, and Gomea Methodist responded with 137 all out in their 20 overs.

At the Buccament Playing Field, Fitz Hughes Government stopped Fair Hall Government in a 113-run victory. Fitz Hughes Government got to 161 for 7 in 20 overs, and the Fair Hall Government were bundled out for 48 off 19 overs in reply.

In the other game at the same venue, Canouan Government School batting second, defeated Clare Valley Government School by 114 runs. Canouan Government totalled 214 all out in 20 overs, surpassing Clare Valley Government’s 110 all out in their 20 overs.

The 2026 Inter-Primary Schools Developmental Cricket Competition is expected to bring the curtains down on calendared school sporting activities held under the auspices of the Division of Sports and Physical Activities.
