As reported by “BasketNews” journalist Donatas Urbonas, the Hapoel team from Jerusalem has submitted an application, according to which they hope to receive a two-year Euroleague license.
The Bres Burg JL team, which won the European Cup, refused to participate in the Euroleague, and the future of the “Monaco” team, which is competing in the championship for the fourth season, is currently unclear, as the club’s future prospects are clouded by financial difficulties.
For many years, Hapoel was considered one of the favorites to win the European Cup and had one of the biggest budgets in the league. The Israeli club has big goals for the upcoming season and has already reached an agreement with Saša Obradović, who coached Crvena Zvezda Belgrade in the Euroleague this season.
According to Mr. Urbons, a three-year agreement has been reached.
Hapoel have already won two trophies in Israel this season despite competition from the richer and better-known Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv currently competing in the EuroLeague. This season, the Jerusalem team won the national Super Cup and the League Cup.
The participants of the Euroleague made a decision on the 2026-27 clubs participating in the season will be accepted on June 16. at the upcoming meeting.
