MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Venezuela intend to expand economic and social cooperation. This was discussed during a meeting between a delegation of the National Assembly of Venezuela and Head of the working group on cooperation with the Venezuelan parliament of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Pavel Popko. The meeting took place in the House of Representatives on 17 April, BelTA has learned.
“At the meeting of the working group, we have raised a number of issues related to legislative, economic, political, and social cooperation. We believe that there are draft laws that serve the interests of our peoples. The Venezuelan delegation has proposed initiatives that we would like to discuss,” Pavel Popko said.
He stressed the importance of supporting Belarusian consulates and embassies in promoting domestic products abroad. “As for political cooperation, we see an opportunity to present our country’s peace-oriented position. In addition, we want to have reliable information about developments in Latin America and to express our government’s and parliament’s support for Venezuela,” the head of the working group noted.
The social agenda includes further cooperation and deeper engagement in education and healthcare. “Belarus is also visited by representatives of the Network of Young Parliamentarians of the Venezuelan National Assembly. Therefore, we are considering issues of youth policy and expanding cooperation with the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union and the youth councils of the Belarusian parliament,” Pavel Popko added.
The parliamentary delegation of the Venezuelan National Assembly is visiting Belarus on 16-18 April. The program includes several meetings as well as visits to a number of Belarusian enterprises and educational and cultural institutions. “All locations included in the visit program were selected with a view to deepening cooperation in the identified areas. It is important for us that our colleagues see firsthand the depth of our approaches in the economy and politics. We have much to share with our friends,” Pavel Popko said.
