April 10, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Davaanasan Enkh-Amar won the gold medal at the
2026 Asian Wrestling Championships, held from April 6 to 12 in Bishkek,
Kyrgyzstan.
On April 9, the
medalists in the women’s 50 kg, 55 kg, 59 kg, 68 kg, and 76 kg weight
categories were decided. From these five divisions, Mongolian athletes won
medals in three.
Specifically, in
the 55 kg category, young master Ariunzaya Odonchimeg defeated a South Korean
wrestler in the bronze medal match to secure a podium finish. This marks
her first appearance at the Asian Championships, where she claimed a bronze
medal. Following her, International Master Bolortuya Khurelkhuu competed in the 59 kg division and fought for bronze but lost to an Indian wrestler, finishing in
fifth place.
Meanwhile, World
Championship silver medalist and International Master Delgermaa Enkhsaikhan earned
another medal by defeating Kazakhstan’s legendary wrestler Yelena
Shalygina—bronze medalist at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, two-time World
Championship silver medalist, one-time bronze medalist, two-time Asian
champion, and Asian Games champion—in the bronze medal match. This marks her
sixth medal at the Asian Championships, bringing her total to one silver and
five bronze medals.
In the 76 kg
category, World Championship silver medalist and International Master Davaanasan
Enkh-Amar claimed the gold medal, bringing honor to the nation. In the final,
she defeated the host country’s wrestler Aiperi Medet Kyzy—two-time World
Championship silver medalist, one-time bronze medalist, three-time Asian
champion, three-time Asian silver medalist, and Asian Games champion—by a score
of 4:2. With this victory, she became the 10th Mongolian female wrestler to win
the Asian Championships and secured Mongolia’s 11th gold medal in women’s
wrestling at the event. She now has three medals from the Asian Championships,
having previously won consecutive bronze medals in 2022 and 2023.
Thus, Mongolia’s
women wrestlers raised the national flag three times and played the national
anthem in Bishkek.
