A series of earthquakes hit the northern part of the Evian Gulf in Greece at around 1 pm today. According to the preliminary data from the seismological services, the strongest shock was about 5.2 degrees according to the Richter scale. Euronews.
The first earthquake has a magnitude of 4.8 according to the Geodynamic Institute. It was shallow, at an estimated depth of about 5 kilometers. It was followed by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3, and then the strongest, with a magnitude of 5.2, with an epicenter about 2 km east-southeast of Prokopi, also at a depth of approximately 5 km.
Local media reported that many houses were damaged in Prokopio, northern Evia, and Daphnus, central Evia. Schools in Mantudi and Prokopi will remain closed on Monday as a precaution.
The mayor of Mantudi reported that after the earthquake, landslides were registered at several points along the local road network, which made traffic in the area difficult.
The tremors were also felt in Athens.
Residents of several areas of the Greek capital reported multiple tremors, but according to initial information, there were no reports of material damage or injuries.
