The 29th Seminar of the Working Group of Slavic Minorities in Europe, organized by the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) and the Macedonian Society “Ilinden” – Tirana, started today in Tirana.
For the first time, the host of this international gathering is the Macedonian society “Ilinden” – Tirana, which welcomes 40 representatives from 20 organizations and 11 European countries – Albania, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Estonia, Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia, Italy and Slovakia in the Albanian capital.
The president of the Macedonian Society “Ilinden” – Tirana, Nikola Gjurdjaj, and the president of the Working Group of Slavic Minorities and vice-president of FUEN, Dr. Hartmut Leipner, addressed the opening ceremony.
Within the framework of the seminar, a thematic panel dedicated to the position of the Macedonian national minority in Albania was held, as well as an exhibition on the topic “Education of the native Macedonian language in the Republic of Albania”.
This year’s edition of the seminar is focused precisely on the situation and rights of the Macedonian national minority in Albania and will last until June 7.
The event is attended by representatives of institutions, the academic community, political parties and organizations of national minorities in Albania. Among them are the commissioner for protection against discrimination in Albania, Genta Tafa (Bungo), the member of the Albanian parliament Etleva Budini, the deputy mayor of Pustec Municipality, Atanas Ploca, the honorary president of the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration, prof. Dr. Kimet Fetahu, the vice-president of the party Endrit Fetahu, the university lecturer Dejan Čulafić, the director of the organization “Harriet Martino”, Entela Binjaku, the executive director of the NGO “For social justice”, Gentian Sejrani, as well as the journalist Ervin Nikola, a representative of the Macedonian minority in Albania.
The Macedonian Society “Ilinden” – Tirana has been a member of the Federal Union of European Nationalities and the Working Group of Slavic Minorities since May 16, 2015.
