Russia wants Pashinyan to lose the elections. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this during the hearing held in the Congress today.
Marco Rubio, who came to Yerevan for 1 hour a few days ago and signed the agreements on TRIPP and minerals, said that the reason is their active involvement in Armenia, which, according to him, the Russians don’t like that much.
“The Russians, to put it mildly, are not happy about our involvement in Armenia. They think it is obvious that because of the closer relations with the USA, they would like the current president (meaning Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan) to lose in these elections.”
Rubio emphasized that they are not telling Armenia to stop relations with this or that country, they just want to have a presence here and cooperate in areas of interest, in addition to supporting the establishment of peace with Azerbaijan.
According to Rubio, the relations between the USA and Armenia were quite passive for a long time, but Washington managed to give new momentum to those ties and explore the possibilities of cooperation in various fields.
