A city passenger bus caught fire in Koper, no one was injured
A city bus with six passengers caught fire on the Markovec road in Koper this morning. At the first signs of smoke, the driver stopped the vehicle safely and evacuated the passengers, so there were no injuries in the accident. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but the police attributed the cause to a technical malfunction.

Koper firefighters received the notification about the fire at 11:23. The Arriva bus was traveling along the Markovec Road from the direction of Kvedrova cesta towards Prisoje, when the engine caught fire due to a technical fault. The driver noticed smoke from the engine while driving and immediately stopped at the first bus stop. All six passengers immediately left the vehicle. The fire and smoke did not injure anyone, Nikola Rivić, the head of the fire intervention from the Koper Fire Brigade, described the event for STA.
Rivić also explained to STA the course of rescue and firefighting. “We received information that a bus was on fire, so we went to the field with four vehicles and eight firefighters. Along the way, we received additional information, and the driver later told us that the vehicle was powered by an ordinary engine,” he said.
“The driver reacted soberly and stopped at the first stop, opened the door, evacuated the people, switched off the batteries on the vehicle and pulled away himself. The rear part of the vehicle was already engulfed in flames,” added the fireman.

According to initial findings, the fire was caused by a fault in the engine’s electrical installation, the Koper police explained to STA. No further investigation of the incident is planned.
