    Kuwaiti woman takes 2nd place at Gulf data awards


    DOHA: A young Kuwaiti data specialist has been recognized at a Gulf-wide competition celebrating innovation in data analysis and digital technologies. Kholoud Al-Ajmi received second place in the statistical analysis and data visualization category for her project, “Malath Platform,” at the Youth Creativity in the World of Data Awards. The award ceremony was held in Doha and brought together young people from across the Gulf interested in data, statistics and digital innovation.

    The competition was organized to coincide with Gulf Youth Day and is open to Gulf nationals between the ages of 18 and 34. It aims to identify emerging talent in the field of data, support young innovators and encourage creative uses of data analysis. Organizers said the award seeks to help develop a generation capable of transforming data into knowledge and knowledge into positive impact, contributing to improved quality of life and evidence-based decision-making.

    The award is organized through a partnership between Qatar’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Statistics Center of Qatar and the Gulf Statistical Center. Organizers said the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote data literacy, strengthen young people’s ability to use data in support of sustainable development and build national expertise in statistics and data science.

    Speaking at the event, Dr Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, secretary-general of Qatar’s National Planning Council, said the region is facing increasingly complex challenges at both the regional and international levels. Al Khalifa said the growing pace of change has increased the need for reliable information that can help countries and communities understand challenges clearly and respond with confidence, wisdom and foresight. “The challenge is no longer only the availability of data, but the ability to read it, analyze it and extract meanings and insights that help improve people’s lives and enhance the quality of decisions,” Al Khalifa said. — KUNA
