ndonesia faces Vietnam on Sunday in the last Group A match of the ASEAN Under-19 Boys’ Bank Sumut Championship organized by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), to determine which team will advance to the semifinals.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. in the North Sumatra Main Stadium of Deli Sport City in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
Indonesia and Vietnam have each bagged two wins in their Group A matches against Myanmar and Timor-Leste on Monday and Thursday.
Indonesia’s U-19 squad, nicknamed Garuda Muda (Young Garuda), needs to win Sunday’s match to cruise to the semifinals, something Vietnam’s Golden Star Warriors will not concede easily.
A draw, let alone a defeat, would put the Young Garuda in a precarious position ahead of the Group B and Group C results.
With only three groups in the championship, the group winners will automatically proceed to the knockout stage, while fourth place is reserved for the best runner-up.
On June 4, the Young Garuda continued its winning streak by thrashing Timor-Leste 3-0, despite a blackout of around five minutes marring the match.
