The Ministry of Employment received eight applications for the position of director of the Norwegian Maritime Research Institute, but the deadline for applications expired on May 22.
At the end of September, the ministry advertised the position as vacant for application. The then director of the organization went to a meeting with the minister and requested not to have to serve out his term of office. All things being equal, he should have held the position of CEO until March 31, 2026.
Eggert Benedikt Guðmundsson temporarily took over the position of CEO. In an interview with mbl.is at the time, Þorsteinn said that the ad had come out of nowhere.
Not long ago, a report was published by the consulting company Deloitte for the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, and there are many and extensive proposals for improvements. From the report it can be concluded that there are major flaws in the organization’s management, and in that context it is pointed out the CEO’s inexperience, unclear prioritization of projects and disagreements within the workplace.
