Just days after a motorcyclist lost his life near mile seventy-two, police were called back to the same highway, this time between miles twenty-one and twenty-two. On Sunday afternoon, officers discovered a gray Ford EcoSport badly damaged on the roadside and nearby, the lifeless body of twenty-nine-year-old Jii Lung Wu, a businessman from Belmopan City. Authorities are now working to determine what led to this latest tragedy. ASP Stacy Smith has more details.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
“On Sunday, June 2026, at about two p.m., police were advised of the occurrence of a traffic accident near mile twenty-one on the George Price Highway. Officers responded, and upon their arrival, they observed an extensively damaged Ford EcoSport SUV, which was some two hundred feet off-road, and some forty-three feet away from that vehicle, the gravely injured and unresponsive body of a male person, whose identity was later learned to be Jii Lung Wu, a twenty-nine-year-old Chinese businessman of Belmopan City. What has been learned in the course of this ongoing investigation is that Wu was traveling alone in the EcoSport when upon reaching mile twenty-one, he lost control of the vehicle, which caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times and Mr. Wu to be flung from the vehicle.”
This incident is one of three fatal road traffic accidents to occur across Belize on Sunday alone.
