AN autopsy done yesterday on the body of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie found that she died from multiple traumatic injuries.
The examination was carried out by pathologist Dr Hubert Daisley at the Scarborough Mortuary.
Angelica died after a jet ski crashed into her, her father Arnold Jogie and her uncle Darren Jogie at Pigeon Point beach in Tobago last Wednesday.
A 32-year-old jet ski operator from Canaan Feeder Rd, Tobago, who was arrested in connection with the incident, remained in police custody yesterday.
Once the investigation is complete, a file would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard for determination, police stated.
Education Secretary Orlando Kerr said yesterday he believed the fatal jet ski incident could have been avoided.
“It’s a tragedy. It’s a tragedy. It is something that could have been avoided—totally could have been avoided. As a parent I feel it for the parents of the child because I could only imagine what they are going through. It is going to be very difficult for them; I’m hoping that they would get some form of counselling,” Kerr said.
He said due care and attention must always be paid to prevent accidents like these.
“This has nothing to do with legislation or laws or nothing, is something just as human beings we have to be more concerned about people and people’s wellbeing. I think that it really is a tragedy,” he said.
“Condolences to her family; but you know, it is really a loss of life at such a tender age…all that potential that has not been tapped—it is a sad thing, it is very sad.”
Arrangements are being made through the Tobago House of Assembly to have Angelica’s body sent back to Trinidad for final burial rites.
