The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) vehemently condemns the United Progressive Party (UPP) and its associated propaganda outlet, โReal News,โ for the creation and dissemination of a fraudulent document designed to mislead the electorate.
The forged letter, which has been circulated via party proxies on WhatsApp and published on the UPPโs โReal Newsโ Facebook page, purports to be from Senator Shenella Govia, Leader of Government Business in the Senate. This act of political desperation is a hallmark of a failing campaign that has substituted policy for pathetic fabrications.
The ABLP wishes to point out the obvious โred flagsโ that expose this document as a complete sham, proving that the UPP is as incompetent at political deceit as they are at governance:
- The document is dated April 6, 2026. However, Parliament was officially dissolved on April 1, 2026. Ms. Govia would have no authority to act or sign off as the Leader of Government Business after that date.
- The authors of this fake news could not even be bothered to spell the Senatorโs name correctly, rendering it as โShanellaโ instead of Shenella Govia.
- Unlike the undisciplined and chaotic UPP, the ABLP adheres to strict official protocols. The ABLP never utilizes letterheads where the sovereign Coat of Arms of Antigua and Barbuda and the ABLP party logo appear side-by-side.
- In a shameful display of laziness, the counterfeiters used a distorted Coat of Arms. The deer appears emaciated and the sugar mill is graphically inaccurate โ a clear sign of lazy AI work, and shamefully consistent with the typical creatives put out by the UPP Campaign.
- Further, Ms. Govia has never utilized a Leader of Government Business letterhead, nor has she been assigned the email [emailย protected].
This latest stunt by the UPP and their โReal Newsโ mouthpiece is a direct assault on the intelligence of the Antiguan and Barbudan people. When a political organization realizes they cannot win on their record or their vision, they resort to the gutter. These underhanded tactics are the last refuge of the desperate.
The ABLP remains focused on the continued progress of our nation and refuses to be distracted by the dishonourable antics of a party that has clearly lost its way. We urge the public to remain vigilant against the wave of misinformation being pumped out by UPP proxies as they attempt to salvage their collapsing campaign.
The ABLP stands for integrity, discipline, and the truth. We will not allow the UPP to degrade our democratic process with such blatant and amateurish lies.
