The Ministry of National Defense took a key step in the regional protection system by inaugurating the Strategic Center for the Operation of Critical Systems of the Southern Cone.
Located at Montevideo Air Base No. 1, the space developed in collaboration with the Spanish technology company Indra is the first of its kind in South America.
“The installation of this center today seeks to bring these tasks of diagnosis, maintenance, support, and repair of these critical structures closer together and reduce their times and costs”said the director of Air Traffic and Defense for the company’s Southern Cone, Andrés Burghi.
What is the new Strategic Center for the Operation of Critical Systems inaugurated in Uruguay like?
The new facilities will provide coverage to projects and systems throughout the Southern Cone, particularly in Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Paraguay, improving operational autonomy and technological sovereignty.
The contract for its construction was signed during the last administration, as part of the complete renewal process of the local air surveillance systems, which includes the modernization of the Lanza 3D radars, the incorporation of three Gap-Filler Ikeeper radars, the reinforcement of the command and control capabilities of the air defense and the acquisition of the MSSR radar from the Carrasco Airport.

The Strategic Center for the Operation of Critical Systems of the Southern Cone will join the network of In-Service Support Centers (ISSC) from Indra Group, designed to bring the company’s support capabilities closer to the users of its systems, providing technical, operational and capabilities support throughout their life cycle, reducing intervention times and maximizing maintenance and service costs.
