BMW is opening a new chapter in the history of the 3 Series with the presentation of the new, purely electric model BMW i3. The new i3, its second model Neue Klassemarks a profound technological transition for the German brand, bringing the iconic 3 Series into the era of electrification without straying from the sporty character that has accompanied it for five decades. With her new i3BMW proves that the transition to electrification can be combined with driving pleasure, technological excellence and timeless design, keeping the spirit of the 3 Series alive in the new era.
The news BMW i3 debuts on the global market in the i3 50 xDrive version, equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle, producing a total of 469 hp and 645 Nm of torque. The advanced four-wheel drive system ensures immediate response and high levels of grip, while the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology promises top efficiency and improved energy management.

Design-wise, the i3 remains true to BMW’s DNA, yet adopts a new aesthetic language. The sporty proportions and long wheelbase create a dynamic presence on the road. BMW’s signature ‘double grille’ is redesigned, incorporating lighting elements that join the headlights, forming a contemporary light signature. At the rear, thin horizontal lights and bold wheel arches reinforce the sporty character.
The interior fully expresses the Neue Klasse philosophy, with an emphasis on the driver as well as the digital experience. The new BMW Panoramic iDrive forms a modern and welcoming environment, while the BMW Symbiotic Drive function enhances the interactivity between driver and vehicle. A central role is played by the ‘Heart of Joy’ supercomputer, which controls the car’s dynamic behavior at up to ten times the speed of previous systems.

In the field of autonomy, BMW i3 sets new standards, with the ability to cover up to 900 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. The 800 Volt technology and the possibility of fast charging up to 400 kW allow the replenishment of energy for up to 400 kilometers in just 10 minutes, making the model ideal for long distances. At the same time, two-way charging functions such as Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid enhance usability and sustainability.
The production of the new BMW i3 will take place at the Munich plant, which has been significantly modernized in recent years to support the new generation of electric models. Production is expected to begin in August 2026, with first deliveries beginning in the fall.
