The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated this Wednesday that it will guarantee “safe passage” through the Strait of Hormuz after the end of US threats and the establishment of new protocols.
“Once the aggressor’s threats have been neutralized and the new protocols established, safe passage will be guaranteed,” indicated the Navy of the elite military corps in its X account.
The Revolutionary Guard also thanked the captains and owners of the ships that are in the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf for their cooperation for respecting their regulations.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump suspended Operation Project Freedom to remove ships trapped by Iran’s blockade from the area, which yesterday caused new clashes in the area.
The American media Axios has also reported that the United States and Iran are close to reaching an agreement that will end the conflict and open the way to a space for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue.
At the same time, Iran has established a new body to manage transit through the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Strait Gulf Authority (PGSA), which will coordinate the transit of ships that want to pass through Hormuz, state television reported. Press TV.
“Ships must adapt their operations to this framework and obtain a transit permit before crossing the Strait of Hormuz,” the state channel indicated.
The Islamic Republic blocked the strategic passage shortly after the start of the war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28, which has stopped the movement of oil tankers and caused fuel prices to rise.
Iran has repeatedly announced its intention to formalize charging for transit through the strategic strait with the approval of a bill that has received the green light from a parliamentary commission and that still must be voted on in the chamber.
Although the law has not been approved, the country’s Central Bank announced at the end of April that it was already receiving payments from ships for transiting Hormuz. (YO)
