Sarawak Water says the pipe burst occurred at Jalan Wan Alwi, before the traffic lights towards King Centre, and was attributed to third-party works related to the KUTS project.

KUCHING (May 6): A burst main pipeline linked to third-party works under the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project has caused water supply disruptions in several areas here, with repair works now expected to be completed by midnight.

Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Water) Southern Region, in an update on its Facebook page, said its contractor is still carrying out repair works on the affected 400mm ductile iron main pipe.

The utility provider said the pipe burst occurred at Jalan Wan Alwi, before the traffic lights towards King Centre, and was attributed to third-party works related to the KUTS project.

Areas affected include Jalan Wan Alwi, Jalan Alwi, Tabuan Jaya, Tabuan Kedandi, Tabuan Keranji, Jalan Bayor Bukit, Jalan Song and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Sarawak Water Southern Region had earlier issued an unscheduled water supply interruption notice, stating that the disruption began at 11am today, with initial repairs slated for completion by 7pm.

“Water supply will be restored in stages once the repair works are completed,” it said, adding that works are ongoing and the completion time has since been extended to midnight.

In the meantime, water tankers have been deployed to affected locations, with teams on standby to respond to urgent cases.

The public has also been advised to exercise caution when passing through the affected areas and to comply with all traffic management plans and safety regulations at the maintenance site.

Consumers requiring assistance may contact Sarawak Water Southern Region’s call centre at 082-222333 or via WhatsApp at 019-8866650.

Sarawak Water Southern Region apologised for the inconvenience caused and said updates would continue to be shared on its official Facebook page, while thanking the public for their patience and cooperation.
