The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, confirmed today, Tuesday, that Algeria’s hosting of the third international forum on the role of constitutional oversight in protecting rights and freedoms in Algeria and comparative systems reflects the life of the Algerian constitutional judiciary, its openness to global experiences, and its endeavor to build bridges of scientific communication that aim to strengthen the edifice of constitutional justice.
The President of the Republic affirmed, in a speech read on his behalf by the President of the Constitutional Court, Leila Asalaoui: “The holding of this forum is a renewal of the pledge we made before the Algerian people to build a state of truth and law, a state whose foundations are based on the absolute sovereignty of the Constitution and the supremacy of its provisions in protecting rights and freedoms, a firm doctrine in the work of all its institutions, a contract requiring the building of a state in which no one is oppressed.”
He added: “It makes the protection of basic rights and the promotion of freedoms a firm doctrine that applies to the conscience and work of all republican institutions without exception. It is a covenant that derives its spirit from the Statement of November 1, 1954, that historical document that revived the Algerian state as a social democratic state.”
The President of the Republic said: “We have committed ourselves, since the historic turning point of amending the Constitution in November 2020, to make the Constitutional Court a pillar of institutional stability and the core of the practice of true democracy.”
