Five years after its premiere, the smaller Volkswagen Taigun SUV is now presented in a redesigned version, which will be produced at a plant in India. The Taigun (which normally uses the MQB-A0-IN platform) gets new headlights, bumpers and a grille, and it should be noted that the headlights are now connected by a light bar. The wheel design has been changed, and it will be available in 16 or 17 inches. The dimensions remain unchanged. Length is 4,221 mm, width 1,760 mm, height 1,612 mm and wheelbase 2,651 mm. The standard trunk capacity is 385 liters, which increases to 1,405 liters with the rear seats folded.
On the inside, there’s a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and an updated 10.1-inch infotainment system with sleeker software, updated graphics and AI-based integration, allowing for real-time information access, with improved voice controls and hands-free control of in-car functions.
It also offers a panoramic sunroof and features such as electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting and wireless charging.
Safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, among others.
The 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI with 115HP/178 Nm and the 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI with 150HP/250 Nm remain in the engine range. An important innovation is the introduction of a new 8-speed automatic transmission for the 1.0 TSI engine, which replaces the earlier 6-speed transmission, while the option with a 6-speed manual transmission is retained. The 1.5 TSI engine is still offered with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (DSG).
In the end, all versions will only have front-wheel drive, since 4×4 will not be available as an option again. The price is what attracts everyone, it will be around eight thousand euros for the Indian market. It is unthinkable for Europe.
