Lao Brewery Company (Beerlao) recently organised an event for the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026, focusing on the theme of “Road Safety.”
This initiative aims to foster a culture of safety both within and outside the organisation.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work, established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003, is observed annually on 28th April with this year observance marking the 23rd anniversary of global safety awareness efforts.
Carlsberg Group and Beerlao place significant importance on this day, striving to raise awareness and change behaviour to reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities, both in the workplace and on the roads.
This year, Beerlao hosted its World Day for Safety and Health at Work event on 29th April, simultaneously at its Vientiane and Champassak breweries.
The event was presided over by Mr. Henrik Juel Andersen, Managing Director of Lao Brewery Co., Ltd alongside the company’s board of directors.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Vientiane Public Security Headquarters, including Pol. Lt. Col. Sangkhom Phommalath, Head of the Traffic Police Department, as well as business partners, and media representatives.
The event featured presentations on Beerlao’s health and safety policies and strategies, an introduction to Telematics and GPS systems designed to enhance driving monitoring and standards, and comprehensive training on traffic regulations and safe driving practices delivered by traffic police officers.
Discussions also included real-life accident case studies and lessons learned, complemented by an interactive Q&A session to encourage participation.
“Assets can be rebuilt, but a lost life cannot be recovered. Therefore, Beerlao places paramount importance on the health and safety of its employees. This year, we collaborated with traffic police officers to educate and disseminate traffic regulations, ensuring our employees understand and strictly adhere to them to prevent accidents,” said Mr. Sithixay Kettavong, a member of the Board of Directors and Head of Corporate, Social, and Sustainability Affairs at Beerlao.
Mr. Kaenkeo Keovilay, Health and Safety Manager at Beerlao stated: “This event was organised to enhance safety understanding among Beerlao employees, suppliers’ employees, and other stakeholders. We chose road safety as this year’s theme due to the high incidence of road accidents. Having the Vientiane Traffic Police Department provide training will help our employees learn about road usage regulations and apply them to protect lives and property.”
This event underscores Beerlao’s unwavering commitment to fostering a safety culture both within the organisation and in society, conveying the crucial message: “Returning home safely is of utmost importance.”
