The Hawks met Keflavík in the teams’ third game in the semifinals of the Women’s Íslandsmót in basketball and the games ended with the Hawks winning 86:72. The score in the duel is 2:1 for the Hawks, but three wins are needed to reach the final duel of the tournament.
It was equal on all counts in the first quarter and the difference never reached more than four points, but for the most part the game was close. Sára Rúnar Hinriksdóttir’s three points at the end of the quarter separated the teams after the first quarter in a score of 16:13 for Keflavík.
The Hawks played much better in the second quarter
The Hawks got the upper hand in the second quarter and got the most 12 points in the score 37:25 for the Hawks after the 12:0 section of the Hawks, where the Keflavíkurkonur women had the most problems getting to the basket.
However, Keflvíking did not give up and managed to cut the Hawks’ lead down to six points before halftime. The score at halftime was 41:35 for the Hawks.
Krystal-Jade Freeman scored 13 points in the first half and also grabbed five rebounds. Þóra Kristín Jónsdóttir gave five assists.
Keishana Washington also scored 13 points for Keflavík. Sara Rún Hinriksdóttir had five rebounds and five assists.
The Hawks’ excellent start in the second half laid the foundation for victory
The Hawks started the second half much better than Keflavík and the Icelandic champions took a 15-point lead at 55:40. Keflavík’s offensive play was haphazard, but when the team made some runs, they failed to make enough stops in defense to cut down the Hawks’ lead.
The Hawks had the biggest lead of 18 points at 66:48, but at the end of the third quarter, the Hawks had a 15 point lead at 66:51.
Keflavík made a good run in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough
The Hawks led by 19 points at 70:51 at the start of the fourth quarter, and there was little to indicate that Keflavíkurkonur would be able to threaten the home team’s lead.
The women of Keflavík tried their best to reduce the lead of the Hawks, but their defense was not good enough tonight. Keflavík managed to reduce the difference to 10 points in the situation 76:66 for the Hawks, but they did not go any further and the Hawks came away with a victory and are one win away from the final duel of the Iceland tournament.
Krystal-Jade Freeman scored 26 points for the Hawks tonight and grabbed 13 rebounds. Þóra Kristín Jónsdóttir gave seven assists.
Sara Rún Hinriksdóttir scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and gave eight assists for Keflavík tonight.
