United Progressive Party Leader Jamale Pringle used his Labour Day address at the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union rally to salute workers and call for unity, stressing that the contributions of the working class remain central to national development.
Addressing union members, leadership, and supporters, Pringle praised those “who work tirelessly to keep this union going in the interest of the working class,” as he opened his remarks with greetings to the executive, president and general secretary.
He said Labour Day represents more than a public holiday, describing it as a reflection of the effort and sacrifice of workers across the country.
“Labour Day is not just a holiday. It is a celebration of dedication, skill, and the countless hours that keep our industries, businesses, and neighborhoods thriving,” Pringle said.
He pointed to the broader impact of workers on society, noting that their contributions extend beyond economic output.
“Your hard work… builds families, dreams, and the future of our nation,” he added, while acknowledging the daily challenges faced by workers and their resilience in overcoming them.
Pringle also underscored the need for fair treatment in the workplace, stating that “every worker deserves respect, fair treatment, and opportunity.”
The opposition leader’s central message focused on unity, urging collective action as the path to progress.
“Progress is made together… we have to be united,” he told the crowd.
He closed his brief address with expressions of solidarity with labour and his party, declaring support for the working class and the union.
“Long live the United Progressive Party. Long live the working class. Long live the Antigua Barbuda Workers Union,” Pringle said.
