In the village of Vasieni, Ialoveni district, the House of Culture, built back in the 1970s, has been preserved. This is one of the few cultural institutions that was not closed after the change of regimes and during the years of shortage. The building is decorated with a mosaic by artist Igor Vieru with national symbols. Director Vadim Vrabiy told NewsMaker journalist Corina Malkochan that the large hall with 600 seats hosts concerts, creative evenings and film shows, and the small hall hosts rehearsals and chamber events.
The administration of the House of Culture admits that funding is only enough for current needs, but not for desires. Some of the renovations in the hall were done on their own with the help of the Probation Bureau. At the House of Culture there is a vocal and instrumental ensemble Noi and a folklore group Moștenitorii, children dance – although there are almost no boys in the clubs. For local residents, the stage has become a place where they recharge their energy. As long as applause and children’s voices are heard here, the village remains alive.
