Transnistria: abolition of tax benefits
Parliament approved the PAS bill canceling tax benefits for Transnistria is in final reading. In addition to introducing VAT and excise taxes for Transnistrian business, the project provides for the introduction of VAT on gas for residents of Transnistria. PAS believes that this will replenish the Moldovan budget by 3.3 billion lei per year and will be “an important step towards the reintegration of the country.”
In Tiraspol, the abolition of benefits was called “economic strangulation.”
Fighting the energy crisis
The ruling PAS party also developed a bill that the authors believe strengthens the possibility of government intervention in the context of an energy crisis. PAS claims that the proposed measures will help the authorities quickly and efficiently solve problems arising in the energy market.
Popshoi and Grosu about Ozerov’s statements
Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi named the recent statement by Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov is part of Russia’s hybrid war against Moldova. Ozerov, if you remember, said that Moscow would protect Russian citizens in Transnistria “by all available means” in the event of a violent settlement of the conflict.
And the Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu named Ozerov’s provocative and untrustworthy statement about the production of drones for Ukraine in Vadul-lui-Voda. According to Grosu, the ambassador simply “had his imagination running wild.”
Prisoner exchange: risks, issues
Grosso also statedthat he does not see a risk for Moldova after the release of ex-deputy director of the SIS, Alexandru Balan, and his arrival in Belarus as part of a multilateral prisoner exchange: “Let’s not overestimate his capabilities.”
Former Prosecutor General, and now a deputy from the Alternative bloc, Alexander Stoianoglo, meanwhile believesthat the release of Balan carries serious risks. He recalled that Balan, holding a leadership position, was aware of the system of work of the SIS and could know the undercover agents.
And PSRM leader Igor Dodon, commenting on the return to Moldova of two SIS officers as part of the same exchange, saidthat their return to their homeland is good, but the situation raises many questions, including what they were doing in Russia. Dodon called the exchange “a major spy exchange scandal.”
