The former mayor of Skopje and SDSM official, Petre Shilegov, in an interview for “Focus“he criticizes his former party, i.e. its leadership in the last, as he says, “15-20 years”, accusing the first people of the party of “fighting with their most prominent members”.
SDSM turned off Shilegov from the party after he openly called for the resignation of the current leadership led by Venko Filipce. The SDSM leader publicly accused Shilegov of being blackmailed by the current government. citing alleged “private problems and indebtedness”.
“The role of a political party in society, especially in the Macedonian democratic society, the role of larger political parties is to gather smaller political groups in order to create a quality coalition. And you have been fighting with your most prominent members for the past 15-20 years. And now how do they even think they can function as a political party and win elections?”, says Shilegov.
He adds that SDSM as a political party, instead of expanding the spectrum of people and drawing knowledge from people in SDSM with many years of experience, is losing quality people.
“Instead of broadening the spectrum of people, you’re cocooned in holding on to survival at all costs. I don’t know from what interests, I won’t go into it, but you’re fighting people who can only bring you quality,” he said.
