    The MEXT Scholarships 2027 offer fully funded study opportunities in Japan for students from Fiji, Nauru, Tuvalu, and Kiribati across four categories.     The MEXT Japan, through the Embassy of Japan in Fiji, is offering scholarships to qualified nationals of Fiji, Nauru, Tuvalu, and Kiribati for study in Japan.

    The programme supports multiple study levels and promotes international education, research collaboration, and cultural exchange.

    Scholarship Categories

    The programme offers four categories:

    • Research Students (Master’s, Doctoral, or non-degree research)
    • Undergraduate Students
    • KOSEN (College of Technology) Students
    • Specialised Training College Students

    Each category supports different academic pathways in Japan.

    Fields of Study

    Applicants must:

    • Choose a field related to their previous academic background
    • Select subjects suitable for study at Japanese universities

    Restrictions apply to:

    • Traditional performing arts (practical training-based)
    • Industrial or vocational training fields
    • Clinical medical training (until licensing is obtained)

    Funding and Benefits

    Monthly Stipend

    • 143,000 yen (research/preparatory students)
    • 144,000 yen (master’s/professional degree)
    • 145,000 yen (doctoral students)
    • 117,000 yen (undergraduate, KOSEN, specialised training)

    Additional Benefits

    • Regional allowance: 2,000–3,000 yen/month
    • Japanese language training (if required)
    • Tuition support (as per programme rules)

    Who Is Eligible?

    Applicants must:

    • Be nationals of Fiji, Nauru, Tuvalu, or Kiribati
    • Be from countries with diplomatic relations with Japan
    • Meet academic qualifications for the chosen level

    • Be willing to learn Japanese
    • Show interest in Japan and its culture
    • Be able to travel to Japan for the 2027 intake

    Who Is Not Eligible?

    Applicants will be disqualified if they:

    • Hold Japanese nationality
    • Are currently receiving another MEXT scholarship
    • Are already studying in Japan as privately funded students (unless finishing before start)
    • Plan long-term research outside Japan
    • Do not intend to complete a degree
    • Fail to obtain a “Student” visa

    Programme Structure

    • Preparatory Japanese language training (if required)
    • Enrollment in academic programme (undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, etc.)
    • Full-time study in Japan

    Application Deadlines by Country

    • Fiji: Submit to Embassy of Japan in Fiji by 5 June 2026 (4:30 PM, Suva time)
    • Kiribati: Submit to Embassy of Japan in Kiribati by 20 May 2026 (4:30 PM, Tarawa time)
    • Nauru: Submit to Department of Education by 1 June 2026
    • Tuvalu: Submit to Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development by 1 June 2026
