The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mutsunski, told the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy that the foreign policy in the past two years can be summed up in three key terms: dignity, results and vision, reported MIA.
He emphasized that the state defends the national interests through clear positions and institutional approach, and not through rhetoric, in order to provide concrete benefits for citizens – investments, security, jobs and a better international position.
Mutsunski emphasized that foreign policy must be a matter of national consensus, because small states cannot afford internal divisions when they appear on the international stage. According to him, today’s diplomatic activity is aimed at creating economic effects and opening new opportunities for domestic companies.
He indicated the European integration as the central axis of the policy, emphasizing that the accession to the European Union must bring concrete benefits already during the process. He also referred to the progress in compliance with EU policies, participation in regional initiatives and joining SEPA, which he assessed as an important step for citizens and businesses.
In the area of international relations, Mutsunski highlighted strategic partnerships with the United Kingdom, Hungary and announced agreements with other countries, as well as deepening cooperation with the United States of America, especially in the areas of energy, security and investment.
He pointed out that membership in NATO remains a key pillar of security, and the state continues to increase the defense budget. With regard to the region, he emphasized that efforts are being made to improve relations with neighbors through specific projects, despite the open political issues.
Mutsunski also referred to economic diplomacy, noting that it increasingly focuses on attracting investments, supporting exports and connecting with global markets, as well as protecting the national economic interest.
In the end, he emphasized that the state strengthens its role in multilateral organizations, improves consular protection of citizens and works on the professionalization of the diplomatic service.
