ALMOST three months after the body of a 74-year-old woman was found under a bed at her family’s home in Torenia Drive, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, an autopsy has confirmed that no foul play was involved in her death.
Police yesterday confirmed that Doodhani Vishvati Sooknanan died of a heart attack.
The Express understands that a funeral has not been conducted for Sooknanan, as her body remains unclaimed at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park.
When the Express visited the community last month, a resident said that Sooknanan’s relatives—daughter and granddaughter—continued to occupy the home. However, they did not come out to speak with the Express.
Neighbours reported seeing her alive just before Christmas. She was seen taking out garbage and placing it in a bin outside her home, when she tripped and hit her head and was bleeding, a resident shared.
A few days later, neighbours began to notice a strange scent, which in the following days got worse.
On January 8, officers of the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department responded to a report concerning the welfare of Sooknanan and her relatives around 1 p.m.
The officers met two female relatives at the home, who denied them access to the premises. Police said the women wore elaborate white gowns with yellow headpieces.
The officers gained entry to the house by breaking a door on the southern side of the building.
During checks of the premises, officers found Sooknanan’s body partially hidden under a bed in an upstairs bedroom. Police reported that no visible signs of violence were observed.
