Government gives green light for construction start on major roads and railways

The construction start decision means that the Swedish Transport Administration receives the green light to proceed with the projects.

This includes a cross-connection at Södertörn – a 20-kilometer-long expressway between Kungens kurva and Jordbro – and more lanes on the E4/E20 between Hallunda and Vårby backe in Stockholm County. The cross-connection is the single largest project to receive the go-ahead, according to Carlson.

Other road projects concern E45 in Värmland County, National Road 26 in Jönköping County and E65 in Skåne.

Regarding the railway, this includes a yard renovation in Laxå, the expansion of the approach track to Malmö freight yard and measures on the Blekinge coastal line.

All projects are included in the national infrastructure plan for 2026–2037, which includes a total of around SEK 1,200 billion.

The construction start decision does not mean that actual construction will begin, but that the Swedish Transport Administration can now begin procuring contractors.

    Road projects:

    E45 Säffle–Valnäs, section Hammar-Valnäs (Värmland County)

E4/Lv 259 Interconnection Södertörn (Stockholm County)

    E4/E20 Hallunda-Vårby, Fittja-Vårby section (Stockholm County)

    RV 26 Mullsjö-Slättäng (Jönköping County)

    E4 Kongberget-Gnarp (Gävleborg County)

    E65 Svedala-Börringe (Skåne County)

E22 Björketorp (Ronneby Ö)-Nättraby (Blekinge County)

    Railway projects:

Laxå, railway yard reconstruction (Örebro County)

    Malmö freight yard (Skåne County)

    Malmö C (Skåne County)

    Blekinge Coastal Railway (Blekinge/Skåne County)

    Markarydsbanan/Knäred (Halland County)

Construction start decisions have also been made regarding the introduction of a new signaling system in Stockholm and Gävle as well as the Gothenburg traffic control center.
