“On the night of April 27, Russia once again struck the port infrastructure of Greater Odesa and facilities supporting the operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor,” the Port Authority says in a statement.
As a result of the Russian attack, an energy facility on the territory of the cargo terminal was damaged, and local fires broke out, which were promptly extinguished by the relevant services.
Also, while transiting the Ukrainian maritime corridor, the Nauru-flagged merchant vessel RAMCO was attacked. The vessel sustained minor damage, and the fire on board was extinguished by the crew. Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties.
“Daily Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports pose a direct threat to the safety of international shipping and global food security. Despite systematic pressure, the Ukrainian maritime corridor continues to operate,” the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority adds.
Russian strikes on ships in Black Sea
Russian forces are attempting to disrupt the peaceful corridors used by ships traveling to Ukrainian ports.
On April 24, Russian forces in the Black Sea attacked a bulk carrier heading to one of the ports in the Greater Odesa region with strike drones.
Also, in March, a Russian drone struck a foreign vessel as it was leaving the port of Chornomorsk in the Odesa region. The attack resulted in injuries among the crew members. The injured received necessary medical assistance, and an evacuation of the people was carried out.
In addition, in December, Russians once again attacked a Turkish civilian vessel that was sailing from Ukraine to Egypt. The strike was carried out by a drone.
Türkiye’s initial attack was followed by a statement. Ankara called for immediate de-escalation and emphasized the need to conclude an agreement on security guarantees for navigation in the Black Sea.
