PARAMARIBO — The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZ) has announced that the Economic Control Service (ECD) is continuing the investigation into the case of NG Electronics on Leysweg. The ECD received complaints that, among other things, a higher rate is being applied in this case. The person responsible in the shop was informed that the daily rate must be stated at the cash register.
During the on-site investigation, the assistant was unable to produce a valid permit. The permit holder would be outside Paramaribo at that time. A summons letter was left for him, asking him to report to ECD the next day with the required permit. “However, the permit holder did not respond to the call.”
When the ECD subsequently went for an inspection, it turned out that the case had been closed. “Attempts to contact the owner by telephone were also unsuccessful,” EZ said in the press release.
Hygiëne and safety
Between October 12 and 14, the ECD also checked a factory on Beekhuizenweg. Here too, the required permit could not be shown. This factory had been closed during an earlier inspection by the administrative department due to hygienic and safety shortcomings. In this case too, a summons letter was handed over, in which those involved were asked to report the next day with the required permit.
The ECD emphasizes that a valid permit or a copy thereof must always be present on site during its inspections, so that it can be shown on request.
