A number of countries – including the Nordic countries – showed opposition to Russia’s participation at the annual meeting of the IMF.
Representatives from a number of countries – including Denmark – emigrated on Saturday during a meeting of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) steering committee.
It happened while Russia’s finance minister, Anton Siluanov, was speaking at the IMF’s annual meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. This is written by NRK.
According to the Norwegian media, all the Nordic countries left the hall when Siluanov gave his speech, to show opposition to Russia’s participation in the meeting.
It is not clear from NRK’s coverage who represented Denmark at the meeting of the IMF’s steering committee.
It is the Ministry of Taxation and Growth that handles Denmark’s international economic cooperation, including the relationship with the IMF.
Ritzau is trying to get a comment from the ministry.
It was not just the Nordic countries, but almost half of the participating countries that left the hall. This is what Joachim Nagel, president of Germany’s central bank, says to the Reuters news agency.
Reuters has also spoken to Andriy Pyshnyi, who is chairman of Ukraine’s central bank.
He says he was “impressed” by the number of countries that left the room during the Russian finance minister’s speech.
– It was a really deep and emotional moment for me, says Pyzhny to Reuters.
Denmark is not a member of the IMF’s steering committee, which is chaired by the finance minister of Saudi Arabia.
Among the 25 members of the committee are Russia, the United States and Norway.
