The appeal overturns the decision of the Foundation, the indictment of Kurti’s deputy prime minister is confirmed for abuse of office

The Court of Appeal in Pristina has confirmed the indictment for corruption against Deputy Prime Minister Fikrim Damka, seven months after the Basic Court rejected it. The Appellate Judicial Panel has assessed that the first-instance decision was issued in violation of the provisions of the criminal procedure, establishing an essential violation according to Article 384 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Damka, as the Minister of Regional Development, and the Acting Secretary of this Ministry, Besim Kamberaj, were accused by the Special Prosecutor’s Office of having illegally provided them with the benefit of one million euros for the “Swiss Caritas” and the “Germin” organization, in the period 2021-2022.
According to the announcement, the Appeal has confirmed the indictment for “misuse of official position” against Damka and Kamberaj, even though the Foundation decided to stop the procedure on the grounds that “the conditions for the continuation of the criminal procedure in the absence of evidence were not met”.
Currently in the “Kurti 4” Government, Damka is the third deputy prime minister for minority issues and cooperation.
