The President of the United States calls Greenland “one more thing we can put on our beautiful plate” at a voter meeting.
President of the United States, Donald Trump, would never have sent the US military into Greenland.
He says this on the night of Thursday Danish time at a voter’s meeting in the town of Bullhead City, which lies on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada.
It shows live broadcasts from, among others, PBS News from the location.
– I got a lot of criticism from the “fake news” media at the time, they said: “What a terrible way to talk about Greenland, this is terrible!”
– Do you remember that they thought I would send my military out to attack Greenland? I wouldn’t, says Trump.
The speech that Trump gives lasts a good hour and a half.
During the speech, he touches on several topics, including Venezuela, the war in Iran, criticism of the Democrats and his campaign promise to give $5,000 to all American adults if the Republicans win the midterm elections.
And he also comes into Greenland.
– It was owned by Denmark, a very good country, a good and beautiful country. But it is quite far away, and we are right next door. And it’s a huge piece of land, it’s much bigger than Texas.
– It’s just one more thing that we can put on our beautiful plate, says Trump.
It is here that the US president mentions Venezuela.
– There are always more things on our plate. What about Venezuela? We are also doing quite well there, he says.
At the beginning of the year, American soldiers moved into the presidential residence in Venezuela and took then-president Nicolas Maduro prisoner. Subsequently, the United States has entered into agreements on oil with the acting government.
At the end of September, Denmark, Greenland and the USA entered into a new agreement on the USA’s relationship with Greenland.
The agreement is an amendment and expansion of the defense agreement from 1951 between the three parties.
At the same time, it confirms the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark over Greenland and recognizes the right of the Greenlandic people to self-determination.
On Wednesday morning Danish time, Trump wrote on his social media, Truth Social, that preparations are being made to carry out a major investigation for oil, gas and minerals in Greenland.
However, Greenland has subsequently denied that they are close to a massive exploration of oil in Greenland.
The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also stated that if the US is to investigate oil and other raw materials in Greenland, it must be done within the framework of Greenlandic legislation.
